THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO WINTER CARE Ah, the ravages of winter and the toll it takes on our hair! Follow the tips below to ensure your hair stays beautiful and healthy despite the cold, dry air and other problems winter can bring! 1. CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION !   Dry heat and cold weather sap hair of moisture. Because dry hair breaks easily, the most important thing you can do during the cold months is to deep condition regularly and use a more intensive daily conditioner. 2. AVOID USING HEATING APPLIANCES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Using a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron dries hair out even more in winter. 3. AVOID CHEMICALS. Don't perm or use peroxide-laden color in winter. 4. DON'T CLARIFY TOO OFTEN. As wonderful as using a clarifying shampoo or rinse is at removing hair product buildup, most tend to remove the protective oils from the hair shaft... oils that are very much needed to protect hair during the harsh, cold months. It's important that when you do clarify in winter to be sure to use a gentle clarifying shampoo. 5. COVER UP! If you are going to be outside, especially in extreme temperatures or wind, use a pretty silk scarf to protect your hair from the elements. Sun can also be as damaging in winter as it is in summer! 6. REMEMBER THAT YOUR HAIR IS MORE SENSITIVE! Hair is brittle in winter, and thus be much more delicate. 7. TRIM OFTEN. If you are maintaining length, trim your hair about a half inch a month using a good pair of sharp styling shears that you use for nothing other than trimming your hair! If you are actively growing your hair, trim it a half inch every other month during the cold season. This will help prevent any breakage from moving up the hair shaft and causing you a boatload of trouble later! 8. AVOID EXCESSIVELY HOT WATER WHEN YOU WASH YOUR HAIR ! Hot water is drying to hair. Rinse in tepid or even cold water for smooth, shiny hair all year 'round!

WHAT IS THE MILBON TREATMENT?

LINKAGE MEU IS A QUICK, 3 STEP SALON TREATMENT WHICH REGENERATES THE QUALITY OF YOUR HAIR ! 

  

Designed to be an additional service to a salon's normal offerings of cut, color and blow dry, the Linkage Meu treatment consists of a shampoo, conditioner, and final coat,
plus aroma therapy and a home care component.  

Cohesively, it protects and conditions to provide silky, smooth, pliable hair.

Step 1: We apply an amino oil to smooth out the bumps on the surface of your hair.  

Step 2: A (much-needed with this weather) moisture veil massaged and combed thoroughly throughout.  

Step 3: A smoothing top coat, also massaged throughout and rinsed.

Step 4: "At home" care, You merely shampoo as normal and apply the treatment while massaging your hair. Rinse and blow dry as normal for moisturized, smooth hair!

ARE YOU ASKING FOR THE RIGHT KIND OF HIGHLIGHTS?

A lot of women don't really know the difference between a highlight and a lowlight, let alone the different techniques for achieving this very popular look. Many know the terms for the processes - namely, foils and balayage - but they don't often understand what's involved in each one. So here is a rundown of the three main types of highlighting techniques, plus an explanation of lowlights, to help you decide what to ask for at your next color appointment at SDQ Hair Salon.

WHAT IS HIGHLIGHTS?

"Highlights" refers to strands of hair that are lighter than the base color they're being laid upon. It's commonly believed that a highlight is blonde, but actually a highlight only refers to a color that's not as dark as the base strands. The size of the highlights, the level of lightness, the tone, and the placement are all left up to the colorist - after you've communicated the look you're going for, of course. To sum up, the type of highlight depends on a number of things: the look you want, the kind of hair you have & how blonde you wish to go.

BALAYAGE  A French word meaning "to sweep," it actually refers to the sweeping motion produced by the brush when the colorist paints swatches of hair. This is done in revolutions around the head, and each painted swatch is then covered in cellophane. As these highlights are less systematically placed, the resulting look is fatter highlights. RECOMMENDED TO : People with thick, heavy hair, who like the look of chunkier highlights with more contrast (a stripier, less all-over blonde) - Clients looking for a casual, beachy look. Lighter tips and an almost ombré appearance help to define this look.

FOILS HIGHLIGHTS For those interested in more of an all-over blonde look, foil highlights, which are administered on top of and underneath the hair, are an excellent option. Foils can blend more with your natural base color, resulting in a more even distribution of lightening. The foil serves two purposes: It keeps the lightening agent from getting on the surrounding hair, and it keeps the product moist. RECOMMENDED TO: Those who are looking for a very symmetrical highlight, foils might be the way to go. We would also recommended it to those interested in more of an all-over blonde look.

LOWLIGHTS Unlike highlights, which are lighter than the base strands, lowlights are darker strands of color that are woven into the hair. This process typically produces depth and adds contrast when hair becomes overly light and one-dimensionally colored from being highlighted repeatedly. General oxidation and/or fading can occur from regular highlighting, which is another reason someone might opt to even things out with lowlights. RECOMMENDED TO : People with general hair oxidation and/or fading (too many regular highlighting). To avoid hair from becoming washed-out and monochromatic.
